A special statement by Dr. Arthur Bob Karnauh, Director General

Aspiring to create an institute of excellence, the Director-General of the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI), Dr. Arthur Bob Karnuah envisions transforming the center into a fully functional agricultural research institute in Liberia.

Promising to make the institution a hub for agricultural research and innovation within and beyond, Dr. Karnuah is collaborating with stakeholders to ensure it becomes the center of excellence it once was.

Specialized in breeding and genetics, functional genomics, and molecular genetics (biotechnology) for agricultural and animal industry development, the Director General has over 20 years of experience in agricultural research, livestock and poultry management, extension services, and animal science.

The Senior Researcher assured that the institute focuses on researching applied, client-oriented, and adaptive agriculture and natural resources. The aim is to provide policymakers with informed options to increase agricultural productivity and production without harming the natural resource base and the environment, increase food security by contributing to sustainable agricultural growth, and establish an effective agrarian research system.

Envisioning building a team of researchers dedicated to promoting technologies that reduce producer and consumer risks, increase local production, and generate wealth.

CARI’s agenda is built on core values including scientific excellence, creativity, integrity, leadership, collaboration, accountability, transparency, diversity, inclusiveness, and public service.

Dr. Karnuah bolstered CARI staff to support his vision, emphasizing the importance of respect, integrity, and teamwork in fostering a productive working relationship. He assured staff that rewards and promotions would be based on merit and excellent performance.

The institution maintains an open-door policy, focusing on processes rather than personalities, its objective is to ensure that everyone at CARI works diligently and responsibly.

The CARI Act (2016), CARI has a statutory responsibility to undertake research into all the areas of agriculture research and allied natural resources to support the government’s market-led agricultural development policy.
