Dr. Sumo Gets Appointment, DG of CARI
President George Manneh Weah has appointed Dr. Victor Sumo as Director General of the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI).
Dr. Sumo’s appointment as Director General will now put him in full control of Liberia’s only agricultural research institute.
He was appointed as Officer in Charge (OIC) of the institution following the resignation of former OIC Paulette Findley last year August as a result of series of protests from staff demanding her removal.
Upon ascending as Officer In Charge (OIC), Dr. Sumo has always stressed the essentiality of staff working together for the fundamental objective of contributing to the President’s Pro Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development as well as helping in the area of food security.
The CARI boss has admonished staff members to put aside their differences and work for the common good of the country’s only agricultural research institute.
Dr. Sumo since taking over has instituted several measures to increase productivity by getting young scientists to work with emphasis on timeliness to job.
As his appointment was announced from Officer In Charge to Director General, Dr. Victor Sumo lauded the step taken by the President to give him an opportunity to steer the affairs of CARI.
Dr. Sumo has promised to work vigorously in an effort to ensure President Weah’s dream of having an improved agricultural sector is achieved.
The news of Dr. Sumo’s appointment has been greeted by heavy cheers from CARI staff who have been praising President Weah for the step taken.
They said the President’s appointment will help Dr. Sumo to continue the different research programs he has introduced over his short stay as Officer- In- Charge (OIC).
